Jennie’s weekend escape to Fuerteventura

My husband and I decided to book a short break to Fuerteventura over the August bank holiday weekend. We had the perfect excuse of visiting friends who live there and with a three day weekend stretching ahead of us, jetting off was a very welcome change of scene.

The August bank holiday weekends are notoriously busy in the Canary Islands.  We found accommodation at  the four star H10 Ocean Dunas Hotel in Corralejo – the hotel was just perfect.

The rooms are bright, contemporary and spacious with lovely bathrooms.  The pool area area is relaxed and quiet. The attentive hotel staff came to the pool every afternoon offering snacks to everyone and the hotel bar was open all day; the barman made a wicked Piña Colada!  The location of the hotel is ideal: just minutes from the beach in one direction with plentiful shops, bars and excellent restaurants in another.  There are many lovely restaurants and bars on the beach where we found ourselves wandering to at lunchtime.  In the evenings, we headed to the music square which had a lovely vibe with live music and lots of fabulous bars and restaurants.

I expected the airports to be really busy as we were flying over the bank holiday weekend but the queues weren’t too long, were well managed and moved quickly.  It only took us about 15 minutes to go through security and our flights all left on time despite the thunder and lightening we were leaving behind.

It was the perfect short break and destination to recharge our batteries!
