Exploring Los Cabos, Mexico

Jennie recently returned from a busy trip familiarising herself with Los Cabos, Mexico.

Los Cabos is located in northwest Mexico, where the Sea of Cortes meets the Pacific Ocean.  Los Cabos is naturally beautiful with desert landscapes of cacti and ochre mountains to stunning shorelines. There is lots to do in Los Cabos from marine activities such as surfing, fishing and whale watching to desert adventures including discovering various cacti, dune adventures and breathtaking stargazing.  Many fabulous resorts, sun washed beaches and charming villages make Los Cabos a really lovely holiday destination.  This is what Jennie got up to:

One&Only Palmilla

My first stop was the iconic One&Only Palmilla where I spent two nights.  I enjoyed the first day exploring the glorious facilities at the resort, delicious cuisine, a massage at the spa and a beachfront yoga session.  Dinner at Animalón, Mexico’s first and only floating restaurant, was a treat.  The restaurant enjoys views out to the famous Arch: the gateway between the Pacific Ocean and Sea of Cortez.  I had an amazing couple of days at the beautiful One&Only Palmilla…. the hotel is stunning, the service is attentive with excellent attention to detail from all the staff and the views from the hotel are something else! I could never get tired of the view from my balcony first thing in the morning.  You could even be lucky enough to spot a pod of whales from your balcony (from mid December through to April).

Viceroy Los Cabos

Our next stop was Viceroy Los Cabos for two nights – the hotel is architecturally stunning, quirky and minimalist with amazing artwork throughout the hotel and really has the ‘wow’ factor. I enjoyed tequila and mezcal tasting, rooftop dining and a special gastronomy tour of nearby San José del Cabo. Views of the beach and the sound of the crashing waves are just beautiful.

Nobu Los Cabos

We spent the final two nights at the super stylish Nobu Los Cabos. The hotel adopts Japanese contemporary minimalism set on a beautiful beach with fabulous relaxing pool areas: the swim out rooms were my favourite. The main attraction is the incredible food at Nobu’s Japanese fusion restaurant – try the wagyu beef sliders and lychee cocktail, just delicious.  We enjoyed a snorkelling boat trip and a visit to the coastal town of Todos Santos, spattered with colonial buildings and Mexican arts and crafts.  We also enjoyed an amazing lunch at Oysteria.

The trip came to an end with special dinner at Las Ventanas al Paraiso, A Rosewood Resort….. and wow this hotel is absolutely incredible. It oozes luxury and the beach villas are out of this world.

Other hotels visited I visited on the trip were:

Montage Los Cabos

This spot has the feeling of being in a desert but with amazing sea views and swimmable beach.  It is a great location for visiting waterfalls in the hotel’s dune buggy. The hotel also offers activities such as paintballing and snorkelling to name a few.

Here’s the hotel’s own description:

Blending natural beauty with authentic Mexican culture, Montage Los Cabos is an idyllic sanctuary perched upon the premier beachfront in Cabo. Spanning 39 acres along the gentle azure waters of Santa Maria Bay, the resort features walk-in access to the finest swimming, snorkelling and diving in the region.

Rancho Pescadero

This is a beautiful rural hotel that leads to the beach.  The hotel gardens are just magical to walk around and they grow most of their vegetables and herbs on site. Rancho Pescadero combines the luxury of Los Cabos with the privacy of La Paz. A truly ‘escape-from-everything’ resort.

This is what the hotel has to say:

Rancho Pescadero is an awakening – an exploration that encompasses the free spirit, rich culture, and lyrical beauty of Baja California, Mexico. Where wellness is experienced in its most complete sense: the joy of living well. This 30-acre oceanfront escape near the artist haven of Todos Santos—less than an hour’s drive from Cabo—offers a refreshing departure from the norm, with a focus on world-class wellness, sustainability, culinary experiences, and exemplary guest-centric hospitality. Travel with purpose and find our one-of-a-kind, soul-stirring resort retreat inspired by the free spirit, rich culture, and lyrical beauty of Baja California Sur, Mexico.

Paradero Todos Santos

This lovely hotel offers hikes to the beach, dune buggy riding, yoga, meditation and ocean safari as well as freshly prepared healthy cuisine – get back to nature and ready for adventure at Paradero Todos Santos.

Here is the hotel’s own overview:

We’re less of a hotel than we are a high-design landscaping project with luxurious suites. We’ve broken from convention to imagine spaces that inspire and astonish, paving the way for sensory experiences like no other. Our suites are places to reflect and revitalize, with sanctuary-like interiors that flow into contemplative outdoor seating areas and cactus-studded desert and farmland.

Thank you to our parties at Caribtours for hosting this fabulous trip.  Los Cabos is a great destination with only about 9 days of rain a year and perfect to twin with San Francisco or LA.

I would be delighted to chat to you about Los Cabos so do get in touch.
