The Armchair Traveller part 3

As overseas travel is off limits for the moment, some travellers amongst us may be looking for a bit of escapism, a way to immerse ourselves in the stories of far flung destinations and a chance to learn something new. Travel is a tonic for relaxing the mind, escaping the norm and is responsible for boosting happiness. Bust the current stresses by tuning into one of the many travel podcasts available and transport yourselves to another land. Here are a few of our favourites.

Armchair Explorer

For those looking for immersive stories from the world’s greatest adventurers, the Armchair Explorer podcast series is for you. From gorilla trekking in Rwanda to walking in Shackleton’s footsteps in Antarctica and even a space walk, the Armchair Explorer episodes are a real adventure.

The Big Travel Podcast

The Big Travel Podcast explores life stories through travel. With over 95 episodes to choose from there is something for everyone to get their teeth into from travel conservation with travel writer Sophy Roberts to a fascinating insight into the experiences of foreign correspondent and world affairs editor, John Simpson. This is a binge-worthy series.

Rough Guide to Everywhere

As the name suggests, the Rough Guide to Everywhere takes you out of your armchair into the wild through a series of fascinating podcasts. From solo travelling to the extraordinary life of an Aboriginal storyteller, these podcasts are a break from the norm.

Simon Reeve: What makes us human?

The BBC Radio 2 series, What makes us human? invites guests to answer the question through their insights, life experiences and professions. The episode with Simon Reeve is a great listen: the traveller and explorer talks about his life and experiences and ultimately, answers the question.

Desert Island Discs

Whilst not destination focused, these episodes explore the lives of some incredible people and discovers which three items they would take with them to a desert island. Dating back to 1951 right up to the present day, each episode of Desert Island Discs takes you on an individual journey of discovery. By the end, you may feel yourself wanting to be marooned with the subject with sand between your toes and palm trees swaying!
